The Hon. Deputy Minister of Fisheries Neomal Perera with the organization named SPOK (Support People of Kalpitiya) held a private lagoon party on the 4th/5th /6th September. The event was for potential investors in the area, music fans, culture, lovers and outdoor enthusiast. The event also was endorsed by the Sri Lankan Tourist Board. The fun event was an opportunity to put Kalpitiya on the map by way of its natural beauty and the need to create local employment and support local companies.
The event was a three day affair, with live music on the Friday night, a local cultural and rock show on the Saturday and an unplugged session on the Sunday lunch. Over 140 were
on the site and the event had some key supporters, Radio One, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Diageo, Aqua Technologies (Pvt) Ltd , Frosty, Alpha Orient Lanka Ltd.
Whilst most of the attendees slept in tents, some of a luxury style there were bungalows/cabanas at the Sethawadiya Dolphin Eco Hotel. Logistically challenging the event was a great success and over 100 people saw the area for the first time, some taking boat rides whilst others explored the local attractions. The proceed of the event will be given to a local school ,The Hon. Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha visited on the Sunday said he would pass the message to his colleagues about the beautiful location whilst the Hon. Deputy Minister said “This was the most wonderful event held in Kalpitiya. Come, have fun, enjoy and leave Kalpitiya for the future generations”. Other feedback included the “Coolest place on the Island”, “When is Kalpitiya Hype 2010”, “An absolute amazing place”, “Something different”, “We will be back” was the resounding feedback.
