Kalpitiya town sits at the tip of the peninsular and is a bustling little fisher town that enjoys a siesta in the afternoon and comes alive in the evening with most of the shops open till late in the night.  It is a small close-knit community of all faiths who live in total harmony, it it is a wonderfull sight to see the Buddhist temple, church, kovil and mosque stand side by side in the little town centre. The fishing is the main industry in the area, you can watch the night fishing boats return in the morning, and visit the fish market and choose your seafood as it comes straight off the boats!

The 17th century old Dutch Fort and St Peter's Kerk church in the town are some of the few examples of Sri Lanka's rich history and colonial past. Venture a few kilometres south from the town and you can visit the beautiful and renowned church of St Anne’s at Thalawila.
